If none of the appointments shown work for you, text me at (773) 234-6048 to see if we can find a time, or if you have any questions. Pickup/drop-off or home service nearby is possible for an additional cost.
When you arrive I can look over your bike with you to give you an estimate of costs, at no charge. We can then discuss how you'd like to move forward with regards to your budget.
How do I get my bike repaired?
You can make an appointment using my Calendly scheduler above. If none of the appointments shown work for you, feel free to text me at (773) 234-6048 to see if we can find a different time, or if you have any questions.
I do safety checks, tune-ups, new bike assembly, specific repairs, wheel-building, part swaps, or custom frame-up builds, and I have a variety of accessories and used parts on hand.
I don't rebuild the guts of shocks/hydraulic brake calipers/internal gear hubs. I also don't work on standing electric scooters.
I accept cash (but cannot provide change), credit cards, and Venmo/Paypal payments via QR code.
How much will it cost?
I charge an hourly rate for labor (currently $60/hr as of Spring 2024) plus the price of parts used. I don't charge fixed fees for specific repairs.
I'm always happy to look your bike over for free, describe what I think your bike could use and how pressing the issues are, and provide my best guess at the cost of labor and parts.
Checking your bike over and addressing issues found can vary a lot by bike, but for simple tune-up and adjustment work most bikes take about 30m to 1.5hrs of labor. Keep in mind that performing repairs can always reveal more issues requiring attention.
I'm happy to diagnose and repair e-bikes (having built a few), but in general they may require more labor due to complexity and weight.
Who are you?
My name is Dana and I'm just a guy who likes fixing bikes. I'm passionate about making cycling an accessible and easy way to get around Chicago. I am always happy to find the most cost-effective way to get you rolling again!
I‘ve been volunteering for ages now with The Recyclery and Refugee Community Connection, fixing up donated bikes with every imaginable problem.
I'm not a particularly strong or fast rider. I mostly use my bikes as a way to commute, shop, move furniture, and just travel around the city. You may have seen me pulling our small sailboat to launch at Hollywood beach!
I am fully licensed and insured.
Looking for a used bike?
I don't sell (or buy) used bikes at this time. If you are searching for an affordable and reliable commuter, I recommend shopping at The Recyclery (Rogers Park), Working Bikes (Little Village), Ciclo Urbano (Humboldt Park), or Igor Does My Bike (Edgewater).
